I’ve been involved in marketing fuel saver products for approximately 20 years and I still get asked for fuel saving tips on a daily basis, so I though I might give everyone an helping hand on how to get better fuel consumption.
Firstly you don’t have to spend anything to get improvements in your fuel economy, driving for greater fuel efficiency also will reduce your vehicle’s pollution and put money in your pocket.
Alter your driving style: Slow Down. Going fast is so tempting. Not only do we do it to keep up with the flow of traffic, but if we can save even five minutes on the journey it seems worth it. Driving on the highway at 90-95 Km. instead of 100 Km. could save you 3-7lts per 100 Km. over the duration of your trip, depending on the vehicle.
Take it easy on the throttle: Don't accelerate quickly or stomp on the brakes, coast to a stop. You'll save many litres per 100 kilometers as well as wear and tear on your brakes, this will save you even more money.
Switch off the engine: If you're waiting somewhere for a while, like at a train crossing for instance, turn off your engine. Even if it's just for a minute, it can make a difference in your fuel economy, especially if you drive a lot in the city.
You don't need to warm up your vehicle for more than 30 seconds: Thanks to modern technology, most fuel-injected vehicles only need a little time to warm up, and hot air can start blasting into the cabin very shortly thereafter.
Windows up. Again, this is tough, especially on pleasant days. But having the windows down creates aerodynamic drag that causes an engine to work harder. Especially on the highway, this can decrease fuel economy by up to 10%.

Diesel / Tdi: Installing Hiclone just before the inlet manifold will give you between 5-15% increase in power & 10-20% better fuel economy, placing a 2nd just after the inter-cooler will give you 30-50% more than 1x unit, installing a 3rd unit at the filter end of the hose pre-turbo will assist the turbo and bring it on up to 600 RPM earlier this also helps your fuel economy.
Petrol Efi: Installing a Hiclone 5-30cm back from the throttle body will give you 5-15% increase in power and between 10-20% better fuel economy, placing a 2nd unit at the filter end will give you 30-50% more than one Hiclone.
Snorkel: If you have a snorkel a Hiclone into the top will surprise you with extra power and economy as it creates a vortex that wants to and does suck more air in.
K&N air filters: We also market K&N filters, by using an oiled pleated cotton gauze as the filtering medium these allow up to 50% more air flow than the standard paper air filters, the easier your engine can breath the better it performs and gives you greater fuel economy, coupled with the Hiclones vortex effect they work very well together and you'll never buy another filter, they are washable and give you a 1.000.000 Mile warranty.
