Petrol/EFI: Installing a Hiclone near the engine gives you 5-15% increase in power and between 10-20% better fuel efficiency, a 2nd unit at the air filter end will give you 30-50% more than one unit.
Diesel/Tdi: Installing Hiclone just before the inlet manifold will give you between 5-15% increase in power & 10-20% better fuel economy, if you have 200mm or more between the inlet and inter-cooler you can place a 2nd just after the inter-cooler this will give you 30-50% more than one unit, installing one at the filter end of the hose pre-turbo will assist the turbo and bring it on up to 600 RPM earlier which helps your fuel economy.

This is how Hiclone works.
Hiclone has a series of fins and as the air is being sucked or forced through these fins it make the air spin, the device doesn't move, it makes the air move and by spinning the air you get a better mixture between the air and the fuel, better mixture give you a better combustion equals more more power from the fuel hence better fuel economy.
This spinning also creates a vortex that wants to and does suck more air, and it will also bring your turbo on any where up to 600 RPM earlier. More air will give you more power/torque from the fuel.

Hiclones better burn effects will also, de-coke the motor. As the Kms get higher so do the carbon deposits in the engine, these deposits rob you of power so slowly though the years you have to put your foot down a little more to get the power on.
Removing these deposits will bring back a lot of the power so again less use of your right foot and as a bonus because of the better burn you'll get cleaner oil for longer and less pollution as you burn the fuel more completely.
